Hole in one.Congratulations to Doris Dalton who aced the 3rd hole during her round on the Edithburgh Hotel Social Club golf day at Martinsfield on the 29th of April, 2001. Doris’s was the first hole-in-one at Martinsfield during a competition, but youngster Daniel Howson also aced the 3rd during a friendly game with his schoolmate Paul Dellow in 1996. Paul himself aced the 9th during practice a couple of years ago. Other nearest the pin winners on the 29th of April were Doris’s husband Bob (4th), Mark Tilbrook (1st) and Jenny Sinclair (10th). Blackwood Golf Club Women's Champion 2001.Congratulations to Edithburgh's (and Martinsfield's) very own Tessa Stockings on her magnificent win in the 36 hole final of this event at Blackwood Golf Club which was eventually concluded on Monday the 10th of September—after several delays due to violent weather on Friday—and before the world changed for ever. The following is the report of the final match which appeared in the BGC Newsletter for September/October and on their website : ‘The match between Lorry Brown and Tessa Stockings was interrupted and then delayed by lightning and very poor weather. Fifteen year old Tessa Stockings surged to victory over the closing holes. Thunderstorms caused a suspension of play after 27 holes on Friday, at which point Lorry Brown was a promising 4 up. A further opportunity to play resulted in that lead being cut to two, and on Monday morning, 10th September, the match was finally completed, Tessa rolling on to a 2/1 victory, her first at Blackwood and our youngest ever Women’s Club Champion.’ It was also pointed out that Tessa ‘…showed great maturity and mental strength to win and is becoming one of this Club's best golfers.’ Keeping it in the family.Tessa’s brother James has recently qualified third in the Blackwood Golf Club Championship and first in the Junior Championship; we wish him well in the match play rounds. It should be pointed out to virtual visitors to Martinsfield Golf Club that James Stockings won the 1999 Martinsfield Open with a record breaking round of 52—two under par—which still stands as the course record. Furthermore, Tessa followed that up by winning the Women’s section of the 2000 Martinsfield Open. |
